A Pacific Division rivalry matchup between the San Jose Sharks and the Vegas Golden Knights is in the cards tonight as these two teams notoriously are known to not like each other. Tempers flared near the end of the last game that these two clubs played each other, a couple of weeks ago, which saw a total of 32 penalty minutes and a 4-1 Knights victory. You can expect things to get chippy pretty early on tonight as we dive in and continue our NHL odds series with a Sharks-Knights prediction and pick.

Why The Sharks Can Cover The Spread/Win

The San Jose Sharks have fallen off the wagon tremendously lately as they are now pretty far out of a playoff spot, now seven points behind, despite winning two of their last three matchups, which puts them at 2-3-3 in the month of February. They'll need to get something going early and often if they want a shot at the Cup this year. With that said, goaltender James Reimer has had some consistent performances lately as he's allowed three goals or less in eight of his last nine starts. He'll look to get another start tonight as the 33-year-old is sporting a .916 save percentage and allowing 2.84 goals per game on the season. If the Sharks want to get back into playoff contention, it's going to have to start with a win tonight.

Why The Knights Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Vegas Golden Knights were expected to dominate the Pacific Division this year, per usual, but they now suddenly find themselves fighting to stay in the playoffs. They've fallen to third place in the division after going 1-5-1 in their last seven games where the lone win came against the Sharks. The small lack of depth that the Knights have is starting to haunt them as they'll be without Max Pacioretty, Mark Stone, Alec Marinez, and more, again tonight. However, the good news for the Knights is that their starting goaltender Robin Lehner is set to return tonight after missing five games due to injury. He's carrying a .907 save percentage and allowing 2.86 goals against on the season as he'll look to keep this struggling Knights team on pace for playoffs.

Final Sharks-Golden Knights Prediction & Pick

The Sharks are the only team that the Golden Knights have beaten in the last three weeks, but that shouldn't make Vegas an automatic lock tonight. The Knights are at home, but long gone are the days of their massive home stadium advantage, going 14-15 at home this season, while the Sharks aren't much better on the road at 11-14. San Jose has had issues of their own, but they still have a fighting chance for a wild card position. I think they'll keep it close tonight in this chippy rivalry matchup. Give me the puck line for the Sharks while the odds are still relatively decent.

Final Sharks-Golden Knights Prediction and Pick: Sharks +1.5 (-128)
