Why The Capitals Can Cover The Spread/Win

Article Continues Below

The Washington Capitals are somehow still in this matchup after what many (myself included) believed would be a whomping of a series for the Panthers. With that said, the Capitals seem to be only getting goals on random chance and just being at the right place at the right time. Their offense needs to slow down and keep better possession of the puck. With the series shifting back to Florida, the Capitals need to win game five here just to force the Panthers to try and win game six in Washington. We can expect to see Ilya Samsonov in net tonight for the Caps as he's looked pretty good so far in this series.

Why The Panthers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Florida Panthers have been somewhat underwhelming so far this series, I just expected more out of them after winning the Presidents' Trophy in the regular season. But the series is tied up and they're forced into a best-of-three scenario now. Typically, the Panthers have a very good offense but for some reason can't get it going in this series so far. Sergei Bobrovsky will more than likely be starting between the pipes tonight as he's been shaky in the postseason so far, alternating solid and below-average performances. Hopefully, they can find a way to win at home tonight because if they don't, we just might be waving goodbye to the Florida Panthers this year.

Final Capitals-Panthers Prediction & Pick

There is no way the Panthers lose game five and go down 3-2 back to Washington, right? …right? They have to have control of this game tonight, there's really no excuse for the poor effort they've put together. Sure, they have some bright moments, but the Panthers have really been making some simple mental errors, specifically on the defensive side of the ice. With that said, I still like them winning this game. They didn't win the Presidents' Trophy for just anything, they're still a very solid hockey team that should never be overlooked, regardless if they haven't played up to their best so far in this series.

I think this game is going to go to the Panthers, and I know the odds are not great, but do I trust them enough to take the puck line at only +106? No, no I don't. So I'm going with the under in this matchup. It's gone under in three of their four games and now that it's a close series, the plays are going to be a little more intense.

Final Capitals-Panthers Prediction and Pick: Under 6.5 (+104)
