The Battle of Alberta is back once again for game three as the Edmonton Oilers host the Calgary Flames tonight. Why The Flames Can Cover The Spread/Win

Article Continues Below

The Calgary Flames had a meltdown on defense in game two after giving up five goals and an insane amount of high-quality scoring chances for the Oilers. Their defense just allowed McDavid and company to walk right into their zone and do whatever they wanted to them, they just could not be stopped. Of course, the Flames will look to tighten up on defense as their offense seems to be clicking well, scoring nine goals in game one and three more in game two. As long as they continue to peck at the Oilers, the Flames shouldn't have a problem in the scoring department. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom hasn't really been an issue either as he is now up to a .915 save percentage so far in the playoffs. He'll look to bounce back and get a win on the road tonight to take back the series lead.

Why The Oilers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Edmonton Oilers have a special player named Connor McDavid. He's already one of the best hockey players of all time, but he has been incredible in the playoffs so far, collecting 20 points through the first nine games. Sure, the Oilers have some support outside of McDavid, but he is an absolute superstar that simply cannot be stopped sometimes. Goaltender Mike Smith has been far from good this series, showing a .880 save percentage so far. He should be getting the start again tonight as the Oilers head back home for games three and four, they'll look to take a series lead tonight and put some true pressure on the Flames.

Final Flames-Oilers Prediction & Pick

My biggest concern, heading into the playoffs as a whole, let alone this series, is Mike Smith. I've never really had faith in him if I'm being honest but he had a fantastic first round and I was proved wrong, but still skeptical. Round two begins, and we're back to the Mike Smith that I knew would come out eventually. He's easily the worst goaltender still in the playoffs right now and I'll continue to not wrap my head around why people praise this guy like he's what will help the Oilers. That got a bit ranty, but I think I got my point across. With that, give me the Flames on the puck line tonight. It's great odds, of course, and as long as Calgary can play tight defense, they should be just fine in the scoring department.

Final Flames-Oilers Prediction and Pick: Flames -1.5 (+188)
