The Battle of Alberta has been an outstanding series so far, just as fans expected between the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers will host game four after winning the last game and putting themselves up 2-1 on the series. The Flames need to find their offense again, which wasn't a problem in the first two games. Who will head into Calgary with the momentum of a win from tonight? It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Flames-Oilers prediction and pick.

The Calgary Flames come into this contest looking to bounce back from Sunday's loss and even this series back up before heading home for game five. Calgary's offense will be heavily leaned upon in game four, as it usually is, but they need to find ways to get more chances in front of the net. They also need to focus on their defense as they're letting McDavid and company run around them after giving up goals due to bad turnovers and poorly timed line changes. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom is holding an .853 save percentage so far in this series as his woes continue to struggle without goals being scored in front of him. Surely he'll get the start tonight as the Flames can't afford to go down 3-1 in any series.
Why The Oilers Can Cover The Spread/Win
The Edmonton Oilers are looking to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series tonight after they dominated most of the play in game three. They capitalized on just about every mistake that the Flames made and the Oilers' first line now has a combined 23 points through the first three games of the series. While they're finding those offensive opportunities, their defense is struggling, not necessarily in the box score, but their positioning is off, they're allowing shots, and they're getting outplayed physically. Luckily for them, the ageless wonder between the pipes, Mike Smith, has found his rhythm once again as he'll look to get another start tonight.
Final Flames-Oilers Prediction & Pick
What's so confusing about this series is that we all know the Flames are such a good team when they have the right momentum. On paper, the Flames are a deeper and stronger team than the Oilers, but Edmonton has Connor McDavid, and to be honest, that's all any team really needs. I am still very skeptical of Mike Smith as he's somehow found the fountain of youth in this series, but he's been proving me wrong so far, so why wouldn't he do it again? However, I like the Flames in this game. They have great value right now as they're in desperation mode tonight since being down 3-1 in the series is always a nightmare hole to climb out of.
With that said, it's like beating the same drum over and over: “the Flames can win this series if they can figure out a way to slow down the Oilers' top line” (which they have yet to do for the record). The worst part about that statement is that it's true. Until they can figure it out defensively, the Flames are going to be playing uphill all series long, regardless if they pull off a win tonight or not.
