The Western Conference Final kicks off tonight as the Edmonton Oilers will head into Denver to take on the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche took care of business against the Blues after beating them in six games, while the Oilers had a bit of an underdog story as they took down the Flames in just five games. This is looking to be a very high-scoring series as both of these teams are very offensive-heavy. Who will come out of the gates swinging in this matchup? It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with an Oilers-Avalanche prediction and pick.

Why The Oilers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Edmonton Oilers squeaked away with a win in game five against the Flames, but they earned it, they played amazing and won the battle of Alberta, pretty easily. The Oilers have always been a heavy offensive team with Connor McDavid and company, but their weakness is on defense. They have a tough time defending the rush and now that they're up against a team that matches the speed of their own, the Oilers are going to have a hard time keeping pucks out of their own end.

Mike Smith is going to get the start between the pipes tonight as he has looked good throughout the playoffs with a .927 save percentage, although he definitely has his moments (such as allowing a goal that came from the opposite blue line). As long as he can stay focused and the offense can produce on a normal basis, then the Oilers have a chance to win this series.

Why The Avalanche Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Colorado Avalanche had a little bit of a challenge going up against the Blues in their last series, but they found a way to get the job done and are continuing to roll on. The Avs thrive on offense, which will be huge for a series like this. Their defense has been strong so far, but it's near impossible to keep McDavid in check at all times. As long as they can score goals and keep the pressure on in the later periods, the Avs should win this series pretty easily.

Goaltender Darcy Kuemper has been good this postseason with a .904 save percentage as he'll get another start tonight at home, but we'll see how he does against another offensive powerhouse in the Oilers.

Final Oilers-Avalanche Prediction & Pick

This series just feels like one of those high-scoring series where each game hits the over by the second period. With that said, the over is set pretty high, so I have another trick up my sleeve. On FanDuel, there's an option for a Moneyline Total Goals Parlay, which also means a team must win in regulation. The Avs and over 5.5 goals is listed at +145 right now and you can't beat those odds at home. That's my pick for today as it'll be high scoring, but the Avs should be able to prevail.

As far as the entire series goes, give me the Avs in six. I think the Oilers will sneak a couple of cheeky wins in there, maybe one on the road, but I think the Avs are a better, well-rounded team who's going to go to the Stanley Cup where I personally think they belong.
