College basketball odds analysts and SEC Tournament odds experts will tell you this: If Texas A&M beats Arkansas in the SEC Tournament semifinals, it will be in the NCAA Tournament. There is a huge bubble debate right now about the Aggies' status after they put themselves firmly into the conversation with a win over top-seeded Auburn in the SEC quarterfinals on Friday. Texas A&M was below Florida in the SEC bubble pecking order heading into this tournament, but after beating both Florida and Auburn, the Aggies have given themselves a chance to play their way into the tournament field. A&M isn't a lock or even a likely selection, given how low it was on the bubble before the SEC Tournament began. However, beating Auburn and Arkansas back-to-back would give A&M enough meat on the bone to vault past other bubble teams and into the field.
Crucially for A&M, Oklahoma lost to Texas Tech on Friday, in a situation which is similar to what the Aggies face. A&M can leap past the Sooners by winning its conference tournament semifinal. Arkansas looks like a really good team which is primed to make another deep March run. Eric Musselman struggled to break through with this roster in the first two months of the season, but in mid-January, the light went on and the Hogs have racked up great wins on a consistent basis. They dominated a healthy LSU team in the quarterfinals on Friday. They sped away from the Tigers late in the first half and controlled the entire second half. It was a mature performance from a team which knows it is good and knows it made the Elite Eight last year. Arkansas is a legitimate Final Four contender alongside SEC competitors Auburn, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Arkansas hopes to play Kentucky or Tennessee in the SEC final on Sunday.
