The UCLA Bruins have choices to make. Coach Chip Kelly rotated quarterbacks in UCLA's season opener against Coastal Carolina last week. He is expected to rotate quarterbacks again this week. Freshman Dante Moore got most of the snaps against Coastal Carolina, and he should get most of the snaps this week as well. However, Ethan Garbers — who started the Coastal Carolina game — and Collin Schlee, a transfer from Kent State, could also get some action. Many people think Chip Kelly should just give Dante Moore the game and the offense, but the coach doesn't seem ready to do that. It's a rich layer of intrigue surrounding this game.
San Diego State is 2-0, but the Aztecs don't look impressive. Their offense struggled against Ohio in Week Zero, and their defense was less than convincing in an uncomfortably close win over FCS school Idaho State in Week 1. The Aztecs need to play a lot better to take down UCLA, even if the Bruins aren't playing their best.

Why UCLA Could Cover the Spread
The SDSU Aztecs haven't looked good through two weeks, and what really has to concern anyone who follows SDSU is that these two ordinary performances have not featured only one problem. The Aztecs have been below average on both sides of the ball, struggling on offense in their first game and on defense for much of their second game. If there's only one weakness on a team, it is easier for the coaching staff to focus all its energy on that one problem and fix it, or at least improve it. This Aztec team is flawed on numerous levels. UCLA didn't look great in its opener against Coastal Carolina, but the Bruins should be much smoother and more precise in their second game.
Why San Diego State Could Cover the Spread
The spread is two touchdowns, and that's a lot to ask of a UCLA offense which did not hum with efficiency against Coastal Carolina. The fact that Chip Kelly has not yet settled on one quarterback points to a certain degree of instability within the UCLA offense. If Kelly was really convinced that he had one guy ready to fully take control of the huddle, he would have made that decision by now, but he hasn't. The spread is large, and UCLA's offense — which had seasoned veteran players last year (Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Zach Charbonnet, Jake Bobo) — does not have the level of talent it possessed in 2022. SDSU should keep this game close.
Final UCLA-San Diego State Prediction & Pick
UCLA might win, but the Bruins' offense does not appear ready to dominate in this game or in any other game. Take SDSU plus the points in this game.
Final UCLA-San Diego State Prediction & Pick: San Diego State +14.5
