Houston Texans owner Cal McNair fired general manager and head coach Bill O'Brien on Monday. A move that to some may come as a shock, but not if you've been paying attention.

On the daily Locked On Texans podcast, hosts Coty Davis and John Hickman discussed the firing of Bill O'Brien and why this move has been a long time coming.

Coty Davis: When this news broke, the people on the outside looking into this organization were making it seem like the Houston Texans were overreacting to the 0-4 start. For those people who are sitting there thinking, ‘why did the Houston Texans get rid of Bill O'Brien?'

Ladies and gentlemen, this firing, the news of Bill O'Brien, at the end of the day, this goes beyond what took place with the 0-4 start. This goes beyond what took place in January when the Houston Texans blew a 24-point lead, this goes way back to possibly 2017.

My biggest thing is this, when you look at what Bill O'Brien has done to this team, there are two things that led to his firing. One, the lack of playoffs success. This team has been so talented ever since he has walked through that door, but yet, how many AFC Championship games have we been a part of? Forget Super Bowl, how many AFC Championship Games have the Houston Texans have been a part of? We're talking about a team who has seen the likes of the DeAndre Hopkins, Jadeveon Clowney, JJ Watt in his prime, Tyrann Mathieu, DJ Reader, Lamar Miller, Carlos Hyde. Oh yeah, The GM Bill O'Brien actually got the head coach Bill O'Brien fired because out of all those names that I just said, all those talented guys, the only one that's still here is JJ Watt.
