The Buffalo Bills have exercised their fifth-year option on All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, per Field Yates of ESPN.

This was a mere formality for the Bills, who this offseason also supplemented the secondary by signing veteran corner Josh Norman.

White was a menace at the corner spot last season. He led the NFL with six interceptions while also notching 17 pass deflections and a pair of forced fumbles.

Opposing quarterbacks completed just 50 percent of their passes when White was the nearest defender in coverage, according to Pro Football Reference.

Exercising the fifth-year option on White gives the Bills a little bit of flexibility. They can see how he performs in 2020 before potentially inking him to an extension next spring.

Bills general manager Brandon Beane previously spoke on an extension, saying the team loves White but also has to assess his value as a top corner (via Nick Wojton of USA TODAY):

“Obviously Tre’s a guy we love and want back… you do look and try and find what the value is,” Beane said. “It’s hard because it can sometimes be hard for agents, too. Because they’re trying to look at what the market is today versus what’s it going to be in two years. Do they want to play it out? Do they want security now?”

Naturally, White could be in line for a massive payday if he has a big season in 2020.

Fellow corners Byron Jones and Darius Slay received big contracts from their new teams, and the Bills might eventually have to go deep in their pockets to keep White in Buffalo.

For now, however, the Bills are comfortable exercising White's option.
