It should come a surprise to absolutely nobody that the Buffalo Bills picked up the fifth-year option on Josh Allen's contract on Monday. The option is worth $23.1 million for the Buffalo superstar quarterback and for the Bills, he's worth every penny.

NFL.com reported the number, while NFL Network's Ian Rapoport broke the news on Twitter.

Both moves as noted by Rapoport were easy decisions for the braintrust of the Bills to make. General manager Brandon Beane noted the hefty price on both options last month.

“The hard part of this year is going to be, the cap has gone down, (we) don't know exactly where it's going to be next year, probably not a huge increase,” Beane said at the time. “Josh's number is in the 20s because of a Pro Bowl. Tremaine has made a couple Pro Bowls, he's pushing 13. You can't really be flexible with those cap numbers, so we got to make sure if we pick them both up that we're going to have close to 35 million space in next year's cap.” – Bills GM Brandon Beane

Josh Allen is coming off a massive season that resulted in a pro-bowl nod, four first-place MVP votes, an All-NFL Second Team appearance and the Bills made the AFC Championship game. After a shaky start to his career, Allen has really come into his own and now is set to be the Bills' franchise quarterback for years to come.

A long term deal to keep Allen in Buffalo will come as time passes. For now, the Bills wisely scooped up his fifth-year option and Allen will be getting big boy paid as a result of it.
