Portland Trail Blazers star point guard Damian Lillard may be one of the more underrated players in the NBA, but that hasn't stopped the Oakland native from coming up strong in some of the biggest moments. Lillard sunk the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of last season's playoffs, waving goodbye to a team that would trade Paul George and Russell Westbrook in the offseason and launch a rebuild mode.
Now, Lillard is defending himself on Twitter from accusations that he spends too much time on his music. The 29-year-old All-Star goes by Dame D.O.L.L.A. when he's rapping, and he released his third studio album on Friday, entitled “Big D.O.L.L.A.”
Today I got time…I’m asking questions and y’all gone answer
Do y’all think if I wasn’t going above and beyond in my training/preparation , and didn’t feel great about that I would be even doin music? Let’s talk

It takes me the same amount of time to write a verse as it does to get from airport security to my gate because I take pictures /sign autographs … so maybe I could also use that extra time to work on my game too? Let’s talk

Responding to another Twitter user telling the floor general to ignore hateful messages, Lillard said, “The talk doesn’t bother me. I have questions that I want answers to just to be sure,” adding a shrugging emoji for good measure.
Lillard averaged 25.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 6.9 assists in 80 appearances last season for the Blazers, his seventh in the league after being drafted by the Pacific Northwest franchise sixth overall in 2012. He shot 44.4% from the field, 36.9% from behind the 3-point arc, and 91.2% from the free-throw line.
Lillard also led the Blazers to their first Western Conference Finals berth since the franchise's back-to-back berths in 1999 and 2000. Portland signed Lillard to a four-year contract extension in the offseason, too, totaling $196 million.
