Damian Lillard’s clutch shot over the Chicago Bulls was the first time a jump ball and a game-winning buzzer-beater occurred on the same possession inside the final 10 seconds since Kobe Bryant did it in 2006. Down five points with 8.9 seconds left, the Portland Trail Blazers entered a crunch time that fans have simply named “Dame Time.”

Lillard hit a 37-foot 3-point shot to put the Blazers within two points. Portland followed with a clutch defensive possession, tying up Bulls star Zach LaVine and won the jump ball–which eventually ended up in Dame's hot hands.

The 30-year-old star guard proceeded to drill a buzzer-beating, step-back 3-pointer over the long arms of Lauri Markkanen to beat the Bulls, 123-122.

Damian Lillard ended with a game-high 44 points on top of five rebounds and nine assists. It was also his 35th career 40-point game, more than double of any other player in Blazershistory. Clyde Drexler has the next-most with 17.

The last time a play like this occurred, it was Kobe Brant breaking the hearts of the Phoenix Suns on April 30, 2006.

Bulls coach Billy Donovan wasn’t here for the historical moment. The way he saw it, the inbounds to LaVine that the Blazers trapped near the right corner and turned into a jump ball never should have been. Regardless of his feelings, within two seconds of LaVine receiving the ball, the call was made.

“I thought it was a very, very quick jump ball call in that situation,” Donovan said after the game, per Rob Schaefer of NBC Sports. “It was about as quick of a jump ball as I've ever seen, and you can't challenge that. I didn't think it was really a good call at that point in time. Like I get tie-ups but they just kind of like grabbed the ball and then she (referee Dannica Mosher) just called jump ball.”
