After being eliminated by the Denver Nuggets in their first-round series matchup, it was made abundantly clear that the Portland Trail Blazers are in dire need of added reinforcements if they hope to remain competitive over the next few years. As it turns out, this might just come in the form of Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns.

ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith recently revealed that according to a reliable source, the prospect of KAT joining Damian Lillard in Portland has become quite realistic:

Smith is one of the most high-profile insiders within the league, and he also talked up his source as one that possesses ā€œincredible credibility,ā€ so this leads us to believe that this is actually a legitimate storyline. Stephen A. also threw in the names of Blazers duo CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic in the mix as he hinted at the possibility of the pair being included in a potential trade package for the Timberwolves.

Lillard has reiterated his unwavering loyalty to the Blazers time and time again, and it is clear that the All-Star point guard isn't going anywhere. This then puts the Blazers in a position wherein they need to make sure that they are able to surround their cornerstone superstar with the necessary tools to contend for the title. They've made some considerable moves over the past couple of years, but clearly, they have not been enough.

A second superstar is perhaps what the Blazers need right now, and Karl-Anthony Towns absolutely fits that mold. Whether or not Minnesota makes their star available, however, is an altogether different question.
