To not much of a surprise, Toronto Blue Jays center fielder George Springer slugged yet another leadoff home run this season.

During the bottom of the first inning in the Blue Jays’ home series finale against the Minnesota Twins, Springer belted a 433-foot home run off of a 92 mph four-seam fastball from starting pitcher Devin Smeltzer.

In the end, the Blue Jays came away from the contest with an 8-6 defeat, but at the least, Springer made history with the solo home run.

Springer recorded the 50th leadoff home run of his career, with 39 of them coming during his notable run with the Houston Astros. Overall, Rickey Henderson (81), Alfonso Soriano (54) and Craig Biggio (53) are the only other players in MLB history to reach 50 leadoff home runs.

It is safe to say that Springer will soon pass both Biggio and Soriano on this leaderboard, but he sure has ways to go before he can catch up to Henderson. The 10-time All-Star simply did what he could to reach base during his run in the majors, which included tallying a career-high nine leadoff home runs in the 1986 campaign with the New York Yankees.

While the odds of Springer breaking this record of Henderson’s are not necessarily high, he could have a chance to shatter Soriano’s mark for the most leadoff home runs hit in a single season. Soriano logged 13 such home runs over his 2003 campaign with the Yankees, which still stands today as the all-time record in a season. On Springer's part, he has notched seven leadoff home runs this year.

For now, the Blue Jays are set for a three-game road series against the Kansas City Royals beginning on Monday.
