Carl Frampton has been doing the media rounds ahead of the huge boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant. The Englishman discussed the upcoming fight but also mentioned the Mexican boxer's failed drug test in the past.

Canelo Alvarez failed two separate drug tests back in 2018 for the banned substance clenbuterol. His team claims the failure came from ‘tainted meat.'

Carl Frampton believes that's a blemish on his record and that opponents will use it to get under his skin.

“I think it has been an aggressive approach largely down to Caleb Plant mentioning the drug story which has particularly gotten under his skin,” Frampton said to The Mirror.

“I suppose that is a huge blotch on his record and I imagine you are going to hear future opponents continue to bring that up.

“I think that has definitely annoyed him a bit but he is an aggressive guy, it doesn’t surprise me. A lot of the times people fight Canelo they are grateful that it gets to happen, making them lots of money from the fight.

“But Plant is different, you look at his back story. He has had a hard upbringing and a hard life and really wants to win this fight. He is really confident of winning the fight also and it certainly is a different approach than what Canelo is used to with previous opponents being more respectful.

“So Plant's approach appears to have made Canelo more aggressive in his own approach.”

There is only one way to find out if Canelo Alvarez will truly be affected by his opponent mentioning the drug test. Carl Frampton believes we will see a more aggressive fighter.

Only time will tell what the fight gives. The men have previously had an altercation at a press conference after words were exchanged during the face-off.
