Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya was released from the hospital after a scary battle with COVID-19. He made an announcement on Wednesday via social media that proved just how serious this virus can be, whether you're healthy or not. Take a look:
Hey guys, I am out of the hospital. I was in there for 3 days. COVID hit me really hard. I was in the best shape of my life and I really can't wait to get back in the ring. Thank you very much for all your well wishes and all your support. I appreciate it. pic.twitter.com/9XIKfKpDf6

As Oscar De La Hoya said, he was in ‘the best shape of his life' yet COVID still hit him hard. You can hear the disappointment in his voice because he was set to get back in the ring on September 11th and fight Vitor Belfort, but he was forced to withdraw because of his positive test and hospitalization. Evander Holyfield is taking his place in the bout against the UFC legend, Belfort.

Wanted you to hear directly from me that despite being fully vaccinated, I have contracted Covid and am not going to be able to fight next weekend. Preparing for this comeback has been everything to me over the last months, & I want to thank everyone for their tremendous support. pic.twitter.com/0wKEnr5Jzv

Oscar De La Hoya still intends to get back in shape and fight, this is just an unfortunate setback for him. He likely won't be pleased to see Donald Trump doing commentary for the Holyfield-Belfort fight, who De La Hoya absolutely despises. It's unknown when the 48-year-old will be in the ring again, but this is a stern reminder of what COVID-19 is capable of, even if you're fully vaccinated.
