Oscar De La Hoya was slated for a comeback fight against Vitor Belfort on Sept. 11, but De La Hoya's return to the ring will have to wait due to a positive COVID-19 test. TMZ Sports reports Evander Holyfield will step in and take De La Hoya's place against Belfort.

Holyfield-Belfort now just needs to be approved by the California State Athletic Commission. If for whatever reason it's not approved, the fight will simply move to Florida instead.

48-year-old Oscar De La Hoya hasn't fought since a 2008 loss to Manny Pacquiao. 58-year-old Evander Holyfield hasn't been in the ring since 2011. There has been hype about another possible fight between Holyfield and Mike Tyson, with plenty of drama to go along with those negotiations. Holyfield was also scheduled to fight Kevin McBride earlier this year, but it was postponed.

Now, Holyfield is ready to get back in the ring against Vitor Belfort. The 44-year-old MMA star last fought in the UFC in 2018.

Given how much Evander Holyfield has been itching for a comeback, let's hope this fight actually happens. It will be awesome to see Holyfield back in the ring again, even if he's obviously way past his prime.

As for De La Hoya, hopefully he gets over his bout with COVID-19 quickly and can work on scheduling another fight.
