Plenty has happened in the world of politics recently that have spilled over into sports. From the MLB moving the All-Star Game out of Atlanta to Denver, to the unfortunate death of Daunte Wright. As a way to peacefully protest, some athletes have taken it upon themselves to kneel during the National Anthem before the start of the game. However, one former athlete wants politics removed from sports entirely, as Brett Favre believes it's ruining spots.

The former Green Bay Packers quarterback shared his views while appearing as a guest on “The Andrew Klavan Show,” on Daily Wire (h/t USA TODAY).

“I know when I turn on a game, I want to watch a game. I want to watch players play and teams win, lose, come from behind,” Favre said. “I want to watch all the important parts of the game, not what's going on outside of the game, and I think the general fan feels the same way.”

“I can't tell you how many people have said to me, ‘I don't watch anymore; it's not about the game anymore.' And I tend to agree.”

Brett Favre's comments would hold merit if players refused to play out their respective seasons entirely. The games are still being played, and highlight reels are still happening. We're still witnessing Luka Doncic game-winners, Hideki Matsuyama clinching the Masters, two no-hitters pitched within a week, and Tom Brady securing a seventh Super Bowl victory.

Sports have been at the forefront of politics forever. Jackie Robinson, Muhamad Ali, and Rick Monday were all professional athletes that partook in something political during their professional sporting careers. Nothing has changed except that Favre is now seeing sports from an outside perspective after playing professional football for 20 years.

Politics are never going away. Sports are never going away. The two are coexistent with one another. If Brett Favre and others don't want to watch a sport due to their opinions that sports are pushing a political agenda, then that is their choice. Simply put, there is nothing wrong with that decision.
