It's time to continue our MLB odds series with a Brewers-Padres prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Brewers Padres.

The San Diego Padres have struggled at Petco Park for large portions of both the 2023 and 2024 seasons. It has been a struggle for this team to play consistent winning baseball at home, one of the more puzzling realities in present-day Major League Baseball. However, this week — more precisely, in this series against the Milwaukee Brewers — the Padres have finally looked like a juggernaut at home. They have had some really good performances away from home, winning series on the road against the Atlanta Braves and Kansas City Royals, but in the last three games versus the Brewers, the Padres have finally played like the team San Diegans have desperately yearned for. They haven't just won three straight games; what's more is that the Padres have scored at least six runs in three straight home games. That has very rarely happened at Petco Park. In these games against the Brew Crew, the Padres' talent and potential have finally risen to the surface. Yes, this is still basically a .500 team entering the final week of June. This team has still been a disappointment on a larger overall level. It is also just 19-18 in 37 home games, well below expectations. However, if the Padres can continue to play at home the way they have played the last three games, they should be a wild card team by season's end, and they will be a team no one will want to face in the National League playoffs, much like the Arizona Diamondbacks in October of 2023.

Brewers-Padres Projected Starters

Tobias Myers vs. Michael King

Tobias Myers (4-2) has a 3.26 ERA. He is not a pitcher who generates big headlines. He is not a nationally-known household name. Yet, you look at his numbers and realize that he is one of several reasons why the Brewers have surpassed a lot of preseason expectations and have been a good team without Corbin Burnes and Devin Williams, two high-end pitchers. Milwaukee doesn't have superstars, but a lot of good, solid contributing role players. The Brewers get a lot of production from many different players on their roster, in marked contrast to the four National League Central Division teams which are failing to gain ground on them. Myers is part of the story of overachievement in Milwaukee to this point in the 2024 season.

Last Start: Tuesday, June 18 versus the Los Angeles Angels: 6 1/3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 HR, 2 BB, 6 K

2024 Road Splits: 5 starts, 27 2/3 IP, 14 H, 6 R, 3 HR, 10 BB, 23 K

Michael King (5-4) has a 3.49 ERA. There's no question that King has electric stuff. Yet, as you can see below from his home-field pitching splits in 2024, King has control problems. An average of roughly one walk every two innings is simply not good enough. It will continue to put King and the Padres in complicated, difficult situations. There's plenty for King to work on if he wants to give the Padres even more innings and more of a chance at success.

Last Start: Tuesday, June 18 versus the Philadelphia Phillies: 4 2/3 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 HR, 3 BB, 6 K

2024 Home Splits: 7 starts, 36 2/3 IP, 30 H, 17 R, 6 HR, 19 BB, 54 K

Why The Brewers Could Cover The Spread

The Brewers have pitched poorly for three straight days. They're due to pitch well here, and Tobias Myers has been great for them.

Why The Padres Could Cover The Spread

The Padres have finally begun to play like world-beaters at Petco Park, something they have rarely done the past 15 months. When this team is on a roll, it's hard to bet against San Diego.

Final Brewers-Padres Prediction & Pick

The Brewers are probably due for a win, but the Padres are playing great offense. In the end, stay away from this game.

Final Brewers-Padres Prediction & Pick: Padres -1.5
