The Milwaukee Brewers and Boston Red Sox get a day off on Thursday before starting their three-game series at Fenway Park on Friday. The Brewers have lost two series in a row, dropping two of three to the Marlins and Astros on this road trip. Their last outing against the Marlins was disappointing, as Freddy Peralta pitched a gem but lost 1-0. The Red Sox looked like they would freefall down the American League East standings when they lost three of four to the Rays last week, but bounced back by sweeping them at Tropicana Field in their previous series. The Red Sox have won four games in a row. It is time to continue our MLB odds series with a Brewers-Red Sox prediction, pick, and how-to-watch.

Bryse Wilson will start for the Brewers, and he's had some good form for Milwaukee despite them losing three of his last four starts. Wilson allowed two or fewer earned runs in every start this season but has failed to make it past the fifth inning since he's still building up his pitch count after starting in the bullpen. Wilson's other issue with his pitch count is his lack of control. He has walked 14 batters over his last five starts.

The Red Sox haven't announced a starter, but Kutter Crawford is in line to take the mound. Crawford has been a bright spot for the Red Sox this season, owning a 2-2 record and a 2.17 ERA. He allowed just two earned runs over his first five starts but has evened out with 13 over his past five.

Why The Brewers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Brewers could struggle against Kutter Crawford, but as good as the Red Sox starters have been, their bullpen has been equally bad. Over the three-game sweep against the Rays, the Red Sox bullpen had a 7.16 ERA. They were able to win three in a row in that series, but that kind of result is unsustainable.

The Red Sox also haven't been hitting with that much success against righties. They are batting just .230 over their last ten games, averaging 5.1 runs/nine. Boston has been capitalizing with some good power numbers, but Wilson has given up just six in 38 2/3 innings.

Why The Red Sox Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Red Sox leaned on their starting pitching in the sweep of the Rays, and they'll be able to do that again in Game 1. The Brewers' offense had a poor showing in their series against the Marlins and have scored more than four runs once over their last two series. The Brewers are batting .206 over their past five games, averaging just 3.3 runs/nine. If there's been one issue with the Red Sox starters this season, it's been their propensity to give up the long ball. The Brewers' power numbers have gone cold over the last week, hitting just four in six games after hitting 59 in 49 to start the season.

Final Brewers-Red Sox Prediction & Pick

The Brewers needed a day off after their pitiful offensive performance against the Marlins in the series finale. It's hard to believe that the Red Sox were able to sweep their series against the Rays with the bullpen's performance and their average offense. Take the water to find its level in this game, and the Brewers steal a win in Game 1.
