The Denver Broncos will open the 2024-2025 season later this fall with an odd feeling of not exactly knowing what their ceiling and potential is as a team. Coach Sean Payton has built winning teams, organizations, and franchises before and now he wants to do the same behind former Oregon standout Bo Nix. Recently, Coach Payton shed light on Nix's place in the QB pecking order during OTAs and fans are wondering if Nix could be the AFC West franchise's starter.

The information came as Nix gushed over Payton's NFL pedigree. The former Oregon Ducks signal-caller Nix got an eye-opening review from Payton during his process of making a home in the Mile High City.

Now the question is whether or not Nix will be ready to go for Opening Day of the 2024 NFL season. Payton provided clues with his latest assessment.

Sean Payton's thoughts on Bo Nix were shared in an ESPN article. When asked about the former Oregon Ducks QB's development, Payton had words at the ready.

“Good, he's father along than most would be,” Payton said. “We're talking about a player who's played 61 games (in college). He's extremely smart. He's picked it up very quickly.”

Payton also shared thoughts on how the QB race is going. The Broncos are expected to face stiff competition in the AFC West with Jim Harbaugh in Los Angeles and the Chiefs thirsty for another championship.

“We try to split up all the reps,” Payton said. “There's going to be a time when you read into the reps, I don't think it's early in OTAs. It's kind of the orphan group, they're all orphan dogs.

“They've come from somewhere, but they're doing good. It's a good room.”

Broncos' depth chart prediction

The Broncos are currently projected to start Nix at quarterback with Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson backing him up. Nix's presence on the team inspires confidence because of his presumed fit in the Sean Payton offense. Nix's quick trigger and high level of accuracy could make him a star in the Mile High City, but it will take time for him to build up a rapport with the Broncos' receivers and coaches, along with trust. Courtland Sutton and former Detroit Lion Josh Reynolds give Nix a chance to excel in the passing game, but it won't be easy in year one.
