The Denver Broncos saw star linebacker Von Miller go down this week on the last play of practice to what is likely a season-ending (before-it-started) injury.

Now, on Thursday, rising star wide receiver Courtland Sutton appears to be injured as well during practice. According to 9News' Mike Klis, Sutton, 24, went down with an “apparent shoulder injury” and left the field to return to the locker room with the Broncos' training staff.

Sutton, a first-time Pro Bowl selection last season, is the leader of the Broncos' wide receiving group, which also features newcomers like rookies Jerry Jeudy (the team's first-round selection) and KJ Hamler. Sutton was Denver's second-round pick back in the 2018 NFL Draft out of SMU. He tallied over 1,100 receiving yards on 72 catches this past season, scoring six touchdowns.

With the Broncos' defense in tatters following the Miller season-ending surgery, the team's budding offense was supposed to be led by Sutton and the handful of impressive receivers for rising sophomore quarterback Drew Lock, who won all of one of his five starts in his debut season in 2019. Fans should be excited to see Lock hook up with Jeudy, Hamler, Sutton, and second-year tight end Noah Fant. However, the ambiguous Sutton injury leaves a new question mark for offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.

Shurmur was dismissed as head coach of the New York Giants this past offseason and joins Broncos head coach Vic Fangio in Denver. He previously coordinated for the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles.

The Broncos hope to have Sutton back and healthy for the season-opener game against the Tennessee Titans on “Monday Night Football” in Week 1.
