The Denver Broncos were about as pedestrian of a team as imaginable last season as Sean Payton's team finished with an 8-9 record, good for second place in the AFC West (tied with the Las Vegas Raiders).

This season, optimism abounds after the drafting of former Oregon Ducks signal caller Bo Nix in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and now Broncos receiver Courtland Sutton is speaking out about the Broncos' prospects.

Sutton's comments came during a time when star cornerback Sauce Gardner got real about Zach Wilson's NFL future. Broncos General Manager George Paton revealed Peyton Manning's impact on the franchise (similar to John Elway's), even in retirement.

Sutton and the Broncos' passing attack isn't expected to be the league's best statistically by a long shot in 2024. But according to Sutton, the Broncos may have found themselves in a bonafide leader based on the secondary characteristics of the Broncos' newest rookie.

Sutton waxes poetically on Bo Nix

Sutton was asked ‘how pivotal' of a role he could play to help Nix's development with Coach Payton's team this NFL season.

“He has that leader mentality, that aura that he carries and walks with,” Sutton said. Sutton added that he  watched Nix “sling(ing) the ball around” during last fall's college football season. He added that he's looking forward to getting out and working with Nix based on the aforementioned strengths and characteristics he brings to the quarterback position on the football field.

The Broncos' OTAs continued this week with players going through drills pad-free and Nix getting the opportunity to shine in a Denver uniform.

With his quick trigger and pinpoint accuracy, Nix showed a glimpse of what he's capable of while Broncos veterans, rookies and middle-age players (relatively speaking) alike showed their mettle. The Broncos got a shade over 3,000 passing yards from Russell Wilson last season before Wilson left for Pittsburgh.

With Sutton, former Detroit Lion Josh Reynolds and company ready to support Nix this season, the Broncos could build the foundation of one of the best passing attacks in the league. It might take more than a few seasons, but Sutton, as well as many Broncos fans, are confident in the passing attack's direction.
