Drew Lock was supposed to be the great big hope for the Denver Broncos as they try to get out of the rebuilding years they have been in since Peyton Manning left. However, Broncos Nation would have to wait a bit if they want to see their rookie quarterback play.

The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala revealed in a recent piece for The Athletic that team GM John Elway thinks the rookie still needs time to recover. He thinks that it's not worth risking rushing their signal-caller to get back on the field is not in their best interests.

He shot down any rumors that the team is thinking of bringing him to the sidelines.

“We’re still in the process of evaluating that. He is not ready to go right now, I will tell you that.”

The team isn't seeing a lot of success with Joe Flacco in the pocket. While his 1,648 passing yards is serviceable, his six touchdowns aren't enough to help the team win games. The former Super Bowl MVP says that he doesn't care what the media says about him, but his lack of productivity this season has sparked conversations as to whether he's the perfect QB to lead them moving forward.

Lock is looking like a promising QB for the Broncos. He completed at least 3,000 passing yards and 20 touchdowns every year from his sophomore year at Missouri moving forward. Under the guidance of Rich Scangarello, Lock could become the proper signal-caller the Broncos have longed for.

However, it will take a while before they see him recover from his thumb injury. And given the way the team has been acting, it may be possible to see out the season without Lock ever making a snap.
