African-American athletes in all sports deal with constant issues due to the color of their skin. Justin Simmons of the Denver Broncos proved one of the overlying issues for black players, sharing a hypocritical message from a supposed fan of his.

By looking at the tweet that Justin Simmons showed, a fan reached out to him on Instagram, thanking him for visiting his stepdad in the hospital. Simmons is known to be a respectful player and does a ton of commendable work off of the field.

However, when he spoke out on racial inequality, the same fan sent him a message with a racist undertone attached to it. These are the things that Simmons and other people of color endure every day. That is exactly why it is important for everyone, regardless of color, to do their part in enacting change.

In the wake of the incident involving Jacob Blake, who was shot seven times by police and was paralyzed, the Broncos discussed what they could do to take action. The Broncos' reliable safety shared that the team plans on contacting government officials in hopes to work toward change.

Justin Simmons is entering a pivotal year in his career after receiving the franchise tag in 2020. In the past two seasons, Simmons has played in every single defensive snap for the Broncos. Altogether, in his four seasons in Denver, Simmons has accounted for 28 pass breakups and 11 interceptions.

Teams in the NFL have taken a stand with the players amid the incident involving Blake. While certain fans try to drown out his voice, Simmons isn't going to let them deter him from proactively speaking out against racial issues and creating change.
