It has been a difficult last few months for Denver Broncos outside linebacker Shane Ray dealing with nagging issues related to his left wrist. This has led to him being unable to participate in offseason team workouts up to this point in time.

According to Mike Klis of 9News, Ray is now seeking a second opinion after surgery was recommended to help resolve the persistent problems has had with his wrist.

This comes just a day after head coach Vance Joseph stated that Ray is still dealing with some issues that could see him being unable to be involved with the team at all in training camp this offseason. The possibility of surgery makes this a much more serious matter than originally anticipated as it was an injury that forced him to miss half of the 2017 season.

Ray had been able to partake in the first two weeks of OTAs, but since then he has had difficulties with his left wrist that have forced him to wear a brace. There is clearly something there that has pushed him toward surgery, which wouldn't end his 2018 season before it began.

The 25-year-old is hoping to bounce back this upcoming season after the Broncos decided against picking up the fifth-year option on his rookie deal. Since being selected with the 23rd overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, he has struggled to breakthrough as he had his best campaign in 2016 with a career-best 8.0 sacks while making 48 tackles with two forced fumbles. Through his first three years, he has made 13.0 sacks while missing 10 games.

This could be a make-or-break year for Ray to earn that long-term lucrative deal that he is seeking to receive to stay with the Broncos. In the meantime, it something that the Broncos will continue to monitor moving forward with their former first-round selection.
