The Denver Broncos have their new starting quarterback in Case Keenum. And as expected, his arrival all but spells the end for former starter Trevor Siemian’s time in Denver, as Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post reports.

According to a source, the Broncos are expected to move on from Trevor Siemian, a former seventh-round pick who started 24 games, and have already fielded calls from interested teams.

All things considered, Siemian had a much better time in Denver than anyone could have anticipated. The seventh-rounder surprisingly won what was the unenviable job of succeeding Peyton Manning as the starting quarterback for the defending Super Bowl champions during 2016, which was basically his rookie year. Siemian surpassed all expectations by throwing for 3,401 yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions as he went 8-6 in 14 starts.

However, he endured quite a sophomore slump last season as inconsistency saw him benched in favor of Paxton Lynch and Brock Osweiler. Siemian finished with 2,285 yards for 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 11 games (10 starts) on the season.

Osweiler is a free agent, so the battle for the Broncos’ backup job behind Keenum was between Siemian and Lynch. With Denver committing a first-round pick to Lynch coupled with the fact that he has very little trade value, the Broncos were always likely going to deal Siemian away.

Despite the rocky end to his time in Denver, there’s still going to be a strong market for a capable quarterback in Siemian. At the very least, he can be a nice backup for a team and provide decent starts in a pinch.
