Despite being told differently, there's a belief that new Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey might fight coach Hue Jackson when the season is over.

This is, obviously, in stark contrast to the picture the ownership painted when John Dorsey was fired. The Browns were essentially saying the new GM and current head coach were a match made in heaven. Furthermore, when Cleveland fired Sashi Brown, it was choosing Hue Jackson over front-office folk.

And yet, according to people in league circles, it is the strong belief that Dorsey wants to fire Jackson, especially if Cleveland goes 0-16 on the season.

Following their Week 14 matchup against the Green Bay Packers, Cleveland holds a 1-28 record in the first 29 regular season games under Jackson. His 2017 Browns are three losses away from becoming just the third in league history to put together a winless campaign since the AFL-NFL merger.

As for Jimmy Haslam swearing Hue Jackson would be back next year, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, at the time of Brown's firing:

“We have great appreciation and gratitude for Sashi’s commitment and leadership to our organization but believe transitioning to someone with strong experience and success in drafting and building consistently winning football teams is critical to the future of the Cleveland Browns,” Haslam said. “Today we informed Sashi that we were going in a new direction. The 2018 draft and offseason is pivotal for our franchise, we need to ensure that we maximize our opportunity for success; with our picks, free agency and building our roster. Hue Jackson will remain our coach and will return for the 2018 season but we feel it is necessary to take significant steps to strengthen our personnel department. We have begun the process of having productive conversations regarding leadership of our football operations and will provide further updates when appropriate. We thank Sashi for all his hard work and dedication to the Cleveland Browns.”

Eh, I guess we will see.
