The National Football League MVP Award has been a crazy chase all season long. Early on, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was the front runner. Then the Rams got crushed by the Arizona Cardinals and quarterback Kyler Murray became the prohibited favorite. Murray later missed a month of action, essentially taking him out of the race. In his absence, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady jumped to the forefront.

However, after last week's shutout loss at home to the New Orleans Saints, Brady took a step back. He was passed up by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is now the favorite in Las Vegas with Tom Brady right behind him.

But if Brady is able to take home the award, he will accomplish something that has only happened once, back in 1987.

If Brady wins MVP this season, he will join John Elway in 1987 to be the only quarterbacks ever to win the award without having any Pro Bowl selections at any of the skill positions. The skill positions are defined as quarterback, fullback, running back, wide receiver and tight end.

Buccaneers wide receivers Chris Godwin and Mike Evans are both having great seasons. But not good enough to reach the Pro Bowl this year. It was announced earlier Wednesday that the NFC's Pro Bowl wide receivers are Cooper Kupp, Deebo Samuel, Justin Jefferson and Davante Adams.

Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski missed too many games with injury. Otherwise, he would have made it. Tampa Bay running back Leonard Fournette you could argue was snubbed.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara made the team, but Fournette statistically is having a far superior year. Plus, his team has played much better as well.

Nevertheless, no skill position player for the Buccaneers outside of Brady were named to the Pro Bowl. So, Brady could be about to make even more history this year.
