Chris Godwin finally got that second official contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being franchise-tagged the past two years, and his wife Mariah DelPercio couldn't be any happier.

On Instagram, Mariah shared a rather tear-jerking post about her husband's journey from Middletown High School to Penn State and to the NFL. She revealed what Chris told him even before being drafted, highlighting that wherever he ends up getting drafted, he would make sure to win a Super Bowl and get a second contract–all he needed was a chance and he'll prove that the team who took him are right for selecting him.

Godwin landed on the Buccaneers' lap on the third round as the 84th overall pick, and ever since then, he has worked hard to achieve his goals.

Super Bowl? Check. Second contract? $60 million check.

“[Chris Godwin] you did it,” Mariah wrote on her Instagram stories alongside a photo of her husband from high school. “You told me you would since I met you at 13. On draft day you told me, ‘It doesn't matter where I get picked. I only need a chance. I'm gonna take full advantage of the opportunity I get & I only need a chance. I'm gonna win a Super Bowl & I'm gonna make it to a second contract in this league. I only need a chance.'

“You did exactly what you said you would do. What a ridiculous privilege it is to watch every minute of this story & to take part in it with you & to see you remain the same kind hearted, humble & ruthlessly dedicated person that you've always been. You really did it. … It's a lot more to do, & I can't wait to watch you do it all. If your younger self could see you, he would be in awe. You did it.”

Mariah certainly couldn't have said it any better. That “ruthless dedication” and commitment to his goals are what made Chris Godwin a Super Bowl champion, a Pro Bowler and a true leader for the Buccaneers.

Godwin is one of Tom Brady's best weapons, and keeping him in Tampa Bay ensures the Buccaneers that they'll have reliable wide receiver who can score when necessary. While he suffered an ACL injury in 2021 that limited him to just 14 games, it's best never to underestimate his mentality.

As what his wife said, there's a lot more to do for Godwin, and by the looks of it, he's more than ready to take on the challenges waiting for him.
