Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Devin White has been ruled out for Thursday night's matchup against the Carolina Panthers with a knee injury, according to Greg Auman of The Athletic. The No. 5 overall pick, hailing from LSU, in the 2019 NFL Draft sustained the injury in the game, leaving it with two assisted tackles to his name.

White was initially flagged as questionable for the game with tonsilitis. He played his NFL debut with the ailment.

In his first game as a pro — Week 1, against the San Francisco 49ers — White tallied six combined tackles. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed six completions on all of his throws in his area, for a total of 65 yards, 55 after the catch. As a blitzer, he didn't force a pressure on eight snaps as a pass-rusher. However, he led all rookies for three coverage stops.

Despite his slow start — with tonsilitis, forcing him to be near-mute — legendary Buccaneers corner believes he'll be an excellent player in the NFL, saying, via ESPN's Jenna Laine:

“He's gonna be a good player really quick. I shook his hand after and was like, ‘Is that guy 21 or 35?' He's mature. His influence will be greater than just the way he plays on the football field — it'll be how he handles himself in the locker room. You can tell. That's what he is. He's a natural leader.”

Unfortunately, White won't be able to prove that for the rest of the Panthers game.

At the time of writing, it's unknown if his injury will cause him to miss more time.
