The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have ushered in some significant changes this offseason. As a result, there is plenty of speculation regarding the future of defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

Teams around the league have started to host voluntary workouts for their players. According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, McCoy has been a no-show:

Bucs DT Gerald McCoy did not attend the first day of off-season workouts with the team under Bruce Arians.

McCoy's absence hardly means much at this point since the workouts are voluntary. Regardless, it does raise further questions regarding his future in Tampa Bay. Head coach Bruce Arians has been hesitant to commit to his status on the team this offseason.

Furthermore, none of McCoy's $13 million salary for the 2019 NFL season is guaranteed which means the Bucs can cut him without having to pay any money. This could be why he chose not to show up to the workouts.

There is no question that McCoy is coming off a bit of a down year by his elite standards. He finished the 2018 campaign with 28 tackles and 6.0 sacks in 14 games. This comes just two seasons after being named to his sixth straight Pro Bowl and three seasons after being an All-Pro.

Although his production has decreased in recent years, it is safe to say that he is still considered one of the premier players at his position and the undisputed anchor of the defense.

The prospect of Tampa Bay parting ways with him this offseason would undoubtedly leave a huge void in their group moving forward.
