Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaq Barrett put forth a monster effort during his team's loss to the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon, racking up four sacks, bringing his total to eight on the season.

That ties former New York Jets defensive lineman Mark Gastineau for the most sacks through three games in NFL history. Gastineau accomplished his feat in 1984 and held the single-season sack record until former New York Giants defensive lineman Michael Strahan broke it in 2001.

“It's just everything working perfectly — the playcalls, the guys in the back and the inside, the inside push, the push from the other edge [rusher] Carl [Nassib] — so everything's just working and I'm just beating my one-on-ones at the right time and making a play,” said Barrett, according to Jenna Laine of ESPN.com.

But Barrett would have preferred to get the win:

“The disappointment has taken over all of it. It was a good game, but we lost,” Barrett said. “You can't go to the playoffs if you have four sacks and lose a game. You've gotta get a win. Winning is all that matters.”

The Buccaneers signed Barrett to a one-year deal back in March, but it seems safe to say that he will be earning a much bigger payday next offseason.

Barrett, who played his collegiate football at Colorado State, went undrafted but eventually landed with the Denver Broncos back in 2014. He spent the first five years of his NFL career with the Broncos, totaling 14 sacks during his time in the Mile High City.

Tampa Bay fell to 1-2 on the season and will head on the road to battle the Los Angeles Rams next week.
