The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are making moves to ensure the game of football continues to grow for women.

According to the Buccaneers own website (buccaneers.com), it appears they have not only established a scholarship but it's open.

That scholarship is for women to continue playing football. The details are simple, it is called the “Girls in Football Scholarship.”

That scholarship is the first of its kind inside the NFL. What it does is essentially what a football scholarship does for anyone. Except here, it's specifically for women.

The scholarship will pay some of the tuition for a girl going to a four-year college. The only requirements are that they maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average, write a 500-word essay upon submission, and are participating in some form of football during their senior year of high school.

This is a fantastic way to continue growing the game of football. Women have been gaining an increasing role in the sport in recent years. Not only as viewers and analysts, but as athletes in the game as well.

However, they have never had much incentive to continue the passion in later years.

These types of scholarships can change that drastically though. Suddenly, there's a reason for girls to express their love of the sport and keep going through College.

This is the first step in the right direction. The more people invested in football, the more the sport can grow.

Tampa Bay is the first NFL franchise to create such a scholarship. It's very likely they will be far from the last though.
