The retirement saga of Tom Brady captured the NFL offseason news cycle. Now that he is officially coming back to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the question about when he actually will retire still remains.

Tom Brady told Ramin Setoodeh of Variety that he truly does not know when he will officially retire from the NFL. He said that he is taking it year by year and that he wants to give everything he has before he officially hangs up his cleats.

Variety: Do you know when you’re going to be done playing football?

Tom Brady: I really don’t. I would say it’s year to year: Could this be my last year? Absolutely. Could I change my mind? Absolutely. I’ve realized I don’t have five years left. I want to do it my way. I want to give it everything I got and see where I’m at. My body feels really good. I’ve had a lot of traumatic injuries over the years, but if things go really smoothly and we win, that’d be great.

Brady explained that he had to take his time to think through his decision to retire. He realized that he still wanted to play as he had those conversations, though his desire to be there for his family weighed on him. Eventually, he went back on his retirement and decided to re-join the Buccaneers.

The career of Tom Brady is heavily considered the best of all time among football fans. With seven Super Bowls, 15 Pro Bowls, three MVPs and five Super Bowl MVPs to his name, his legacy is set in stone. Now that his longtime target Rob Gronkowski is officially in retirement, the 44-year-old Brady can't be more than a few years behind.
