Giannis Antetokounmpo has decided to play for Greece this summer, per basketball.realgm.com. Greek basketball fans were hopeful he would play for the national team, but nothing was set in stone. However, Milwaukee Bucks fans may not love the idea of their franchise superstar playing extra games before the season. The Greek National Team is set to play in EuroBasket, which is set to run from September 1st through September 18th.

Antetokounmpo, who is from Greece and is know as the “Greek Freak,” has played 22 prior games for the Greek National Team. He will look to lead the team to a championship at EuroBasket.

The Bucks superstar is fresh off of a 2021-2022 campaign that saw him average the most points of his career with a mark of 29.9. He added just under 12 rebounds and 6 assists per game. Despite profiling as a big man, Giannis Antetokounmpo features a versatile skillset which makes him one of the NBA's most dangerous players.

EuroBasket is also known as the European Basketball Championship. It was founded in 1935 and is one of the most prominent non-NBA basketball events in the world. Despite not drawing much attention in the USA, it is a massive event in Europe.  Different countries participate with pride and a gold medal on the line.

As aforementioned, the fear of injury may cause Bucks fans to not like the idea of Giannis Antetokounmpo playing in the tournament. But Giannis wants to bring a gold medal home to Greece. So his decision to participate is certainly understandable.
