The Buffalo Bills made the playoffs this season but they continued to fail to get the one big monkey off their back, winning a playoff game. The last time the Bills won a playoff game was in 1995 against the Miami Dolphins.

While the Bills failed to get a win in the Wild Card round, there were still some major positives to take away from the season. Let's breakdown four biggest takeaways from Buffalo's 2019 season.

4. Cole Beasley is the perfect receiver for the Bills

The Bills have Cole Beasley under contract for three more years, and that is a big win considering the production he has already provided. He finished the season catching 67 passes for 778 yards and six touchdowns.

While the Bills could still use another star receiver, Beasley in the slot is going to be an issue for defenses going forward within his role. Having that much solidified has real value.

3. The defense is elite

Ed Oliver, Bills

The greatest strength of the Bills this season was their defense. In fact, their personnel proved to be elite with plenty of reasons to be intrigued to be their potential in the future. On the season, Buffalo gave up only 16.2 points per game and that ranked second in the league.

The worst part of their defense was their production when stopping the run as they gave up103.1 yards per game. However, that still ranked 10th in the league. Most of the star power will be back next season and it's clear they are building something special on that side of the ball.

2. Devin Singletary is the real deal

The Bills selected Singletary with the 74th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and he is looking like a steal. He dealt with injuries throughout the season and even despite that, he still finished with 775 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.

It's worth noting, Singletary was splitting carries with Frank Gore much of the season and that also hurt his stats a bit. Going forward, Singletary should be the Bills' lead back and is going to be a headache for opposing defenses for years to come.

1. Josh Allen needs to get better

Josh Allen, Bills, Patriots

Josh Allen is a fine quarterback, but if he can continue to improve this offseason, the Bills can be a legitimate Super Bowl contender. He completed 58.8 percent of his passes for 3,089 yards and 20 touchdowns during his 2019 campaign while also throwing 8 interceptions.

Allen needs to get that completion percentage up by starting to hit more consistently on easy throws. There were too many routine throws he failed to execute and resulted in incompletions, which held back the overall production of the Bills' offense.

The rest of this Bills team is ready and if Allen can catch up with the personnel around him, then they can compete with the NFL's best.
