Mark your calendars, boxing fans, as the date for the ultimate trilogy fight has officially been revealed. Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin are set to enter the ring for their third matchup on September 17, 2022, in what will be one of the most highly coveted boxing events of the year.

The announcement comes on the heels of Alvarez's loss to Dmitry Bivol, which was fought at 175 pounds. Alvarez indicated he'd be keen on a rematch with Bivol in hopes of avenging his defeat, but it seems he's changed course, settling instead for the coveted trilogy bout with Golovkin.

Now that he's slated to square off with Golovkin again in the Sept. 17 thriller, Alvarez will be returning back to his usual 168 pounds for the bout. No location has been set for the trilogy fight, though the first two legs were fought in Las Vegas, NV.

Fans will be eager to see Golovkin and Alvarez back in the ring. Their first matchup in 2017 ended controversially in a draw, before Alvarez emerged victorious in their rematch the following year. Now they're looking to settle the score once and for all in the trilogy fight, where Alvarez will look to defend his super middleweight titles.

In the eyes of Golovkin, he's a perfect 2-0 against Canelo Alvarez in terms of their previous fights.

“I am comfortable knowing I won those fights,” Golovkin said via ESPN. “I do not look back at the decisions. … I thought I won the first two, so winning the third one would be the same to me.”

Expect a lot of chirping between the two boxers as the September spectacle inches closer, and both fighters will be hard at work getting into top shape for the coveted bout.
