The Angels make the trip to Los Angeles to face the Angels! These two teams have been struggling this season with the Angels being one of the worst teams in MLB. Our MLB odds series has our Cardinals-Angels prediction, odds, and pick for Wednesday.
The Cardinals have struggled of late with a 17-24 record. However, they have won two straight games, including the first game in this series. The Cardinals have struggled across the board on both offense and defense. It is a massive reason behind their struggles so far. Brendan Donovan, Nolan Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt, and Willson Contreras have at least tried to stand out on a bad offense. On the mound, Kyle Gibson, Lance Lynn, and Sonny Gray have been solid for a unit that has struggled as a whole this season. This will be an interesting matchup because the Angels at least have a solid offense.
The Angels are struggling this season with a 15-27 record. The offense has dipped a bit and is hovering around the middle of the pack. Their pitching has struggled in comparison. Taylor Ward, Zach Neto, Logan O'Hoppe, Mike Trout, and Anthony Rendon have tried to lead a middling offense. On the mound, Tyler Anderson and Jose Soriano have played well for a unit that has struggled all season so far. The Angels have dipped recently, but the Cardinals are a decent matchup for them overall.

Why The Cardinals Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Cardinals are putting Lance Lynn on the mound where he has a 1-1 record, a 3.79 ERA, and a 1.41 WHIP up to this point in the season. Through 40.1 innings, he has allowed 22 runs on 39 hits with 18 walks and 38 strikeouts. In his eight appearances this season, the Angels have gone 4-4. In his last start, Lynn pitched 4.2 innings where he allowed five runs on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts in an Angels loss. This is a good matchup for Lynn because the Angels' offense has been inconsistent and in the middle of the pack overall.
The offense for the Cardinals has struggled across the board this season. They are 28th in team-batting average at .222 after finishing last season with a .250 batting average. Masynn Winn, Willson Contreras, and Nolan Arenado lead the way for the Cardinals in most of the batting categories. Winn leads in batting average at .283. Contreras then leads with six home runs and in OBP at .398. Arenado leads the way in RBI at 21 and in total hits at 41. This offense has been very bad and they now get a tough matchup against Lance Lynn for the Angels.
Why The Angels Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Angels are starting Griffin Canning on the mound where he has a 1-4 record, a 5.75 ERA, and a 1.35 WHIP. He has allowed 27 runs on 40 hits with 15 walks and 29 strikeouts through 40.2 innings. The Angels are also 2-6 in the eight games that he's appeared in, so far this season. In his last start, he pitched 5.2 innings and allowed zero runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Griffin Canning has struggled at times this season for the Angels and this is a decent matchup against the Angels bats overall.
The Angels' offense has been much better than expected this season without Shohei Ohtani. They are 16th in team batting average at .240 after finishing last season with a .254 batting average. The offense is led by Logan O'Hoppe, Mike Trout, and Taylor Ward in most of the batting stats. O'Hoppe leads in batting average at .268 and in OBP at .318. Taylor Ward leads in RBI at 24 and in total hits at 42, while Mike Trout leads with 10 home runs up to this point in the season, despite his injury. This is a tough matchup overall against Lance Lynn because even though he is older he has been solid for the Cardinals on the mound.
Final Cardinals-Angels Prediction & Pick
These two teams are very similar overall. Each team has been struggling during the year. Lance Lynn is the better pitcher on the Cardinals when compared to Griffin Canning on the Angels. In comparison, the Angels have the better offense because the Cardinals have struggled across the board behind the plate. The Angels should cover this game because it will be close throughout and it helps the game be at home for the Angels.
