The Cleveland Cavaliers really need to turn things around in order to avoid falling into a 3-0 series hole against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. That must start immediately, especially on defense.
When Cavs center Tristan Thompson was asked on Thursday following practice what he thought of the team's recent defensive miscommunications, the 27-year-old did not hold back.
“We’ve gotta talk,” Thompson said, via Jordan Zirm of ESPN Cleveland. “And if you don’t wanna talk, you can sit your ass on the bench.”
Despite a 55-48 lead for Cleveland at the half of Game 2, its defense fell apart in the second half and allowed Boston to outscore them 36-22 in the third quarter. The Cavs essentially squandered a heroic triple-double effort from superstar forward LeBron James and lost by double digits for the second game in a row.
Thompson knows that the Celtics are going to come out and continue to maintain the level of physicality that they have shown throughout the season.
“They're playing hard and chippy, and I love that. I love that. I think the city of Boston loves players like that. That emulates their city,” Thompson said, via a tweet from Taylor Snow of Celtics.com on Thursday.
Cleveland will look to cut into Boston's 2-0 series lead with a win on Saturday night during Game 3 at Quicken Loans Arena. Fortunately for the Cavs, the Celtics have struggled on the road this postseason and have just a 1-4 record away from TD Garden.
