The day of the Champions League final is upon us, as two European powerhouses in Liverpool and Real Madrid will meet at the Parc des Princes in Paris. With that said, it’s a good time to check out our Champions League odds series, which includes our Liverpool-Real Madrid prediction and pick we have laid out below.

Liverpool is entering this final with two cups already in hand, but the big prize of the English Premier League slipped out last weekend. They sorely needed Aston Villa not to lose against Manchester City, and despite leading 2-0, the Citizens turned it around. Still, the Reds will be very motivated to take this trophy back to England. Real Madrid have been champions of Spain for a couple of weeks now, so they enter this match with fresh legs. They are going for their 14th title in this competition and the eighth Champions League final since the competition changed its format in 1992.

Why Liverpool Could Win This Match

It has been an up and down season for Liverpool. Despite some shortcomings in the league, the Reds should still be considered the favorites in this competition. Their run was incredibly impressive, even though Inter Milan and Villarreal almost caught them sleeping at some moments. Given their roster and their form, Liverpool should come out of this match with their sixth Champions League title.

Aside from the strength of their roster, Liverpool's biggest strength is their abundance of leaders. Real Madrid is an experienced side and despite a noticeably weaker roster than all of their knockout stages opposition teams, they managed to reach the final. A huge part of that is the lack of character on the field for PSG and Man City specifically, but Liverpool has so many players that fit the bill of a leader. Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, among others, are all guys that are mentally capable of holding their own – a huge thing against this Real Madrid side.

Another huge reason why Liverpool should be favored is their ability to press very high and to do it over the course of the entire game. Real Madrid has struggled at times with this type of play and it is a huge reason why they conceded three from Chelsea in their quarterfinal second leg. Thus, Liverpool should utilize this strategy and Real Madrid might not have a way out of it.

Why Real Madrid Could Win This Match

An improbable run might end up with an even more improbable title – no one saw this Real Madrid squad going to the final. They are in a transitional phase, yet with the awakening of Vinicius Jr and Karim Benzema, Real Madrid was able to get the La Liga title and make a run through three of the top five preseason Champions League favorites. It would only be right to win the title by facing the fourth of that top five favorites list from before the season began.

In terms of personnel, Real Madrid is overmatched, but in terms of experience, even this Liverpool squad cannot come close to this Real Madrid roster. Seven Real Madrid players are actually playing for their fifth respective Champions League title, and many others in the roster either played or won a Champions League final. It is hard to find historical precedence of a squad with so much Champions League final experience.

There are also two more major reasons why Real Madrid could win this match. One is definitely Karim Benzema, who has been incredible, especially in the Champions League. He scored 15 goals in the competition, including 10 in the knockout stages. Another huge reason is the way Real Madrid got here – they never gave up. This will be a unique game in the sense that Liverpool will be severely sweating for the win, even if they are a goal up as the game draws to a close. This Madrid team is relentless and they do not give in until the end of the game.

Final Liverpool-Real Madrid Prediction & Pick

Just like any final, it is very difficult to predict. As said above, even if one of these teams is winning late, you can still wonder who will end up on top. It is a huge battle between the relatively young and potent Liverpool squad and the old guard in Real Madrid. If all else fails, go with the mentally tougher squad, so our final Liverpool-Real Madrid prediction is a Real Madrid win to claim their record-14th Champions League title at the iconic Parc des Princes.
