Through the last two seasons, the Los Angeles Chargers have had some notable struggles finding consistency kicking the ball in their special teams.

This was not the issue against the Cleveland Browns with rookie kicker Mike Badgley drilling his only field goal attempt and all five extra point tries. Following the game, head coach Anthony Lynn exuded excitement about the Chargers finally being able to find a kicker that can nail field goal attempts, according to Sam Fortier of The Athletic.

“Well,” he said, “we made all our damn kicks.”

This is the second kicker that the team has gone through this season and sixth overall under Lynn in his brief tenure with the franchise. The Chargers had previously relied upon Caleb Sturgis, but he had struggled missing three of his 12 field goal attempts along with four extra point attempts that led to the team parting ways with him.

It has been a critical part of the team's struggles over the last couple of seasons that has contributed to their shortcomings in the win-loss column preventing them from taking that next step forward. However, it appears that Badgley could be that answer as he had a strong showing in his debut with the team on Sunday afternoon. If he can continue to make field goals at a high clip while knocking through the extra point tries, it could see him become a long-term piece of the puzzle on special teams.

The Chargers have gotten to a strong start to the 2018 season holding a 4-2 record through the first six games with their only losses coming against two of the best teams in the league in the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams, who have just one loss between them through Week 6. They will have a chance to take another step forward at home against the Tennessee Titans this upcoming Sunday.
