The Los Angeles Chargers managed to secure their first win of the preseason against the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, general manager Tom Telesco still has not found a way to get running back Melvin Gordon to end his holdout.

It has become apparent that Gordon's holdout will spill into the 2019 NFL season. According to ESPN's Eric Williams, Telesco is not happy with his inability to get a deal done.

“I'm disappointed it has lasted this long. I pride myself in having solutions to problems, and I haven't solved this one yet. We know what he means to our team, and even bigger than that what he means to our organization.”

Telesco's words do little to soften the blow of not having their workhorse to begin the 2019 campaign. It is safe to say he will be more upset if the offense struggles to start the year in Gordon's absence.

The Chargers had reportedly made an offer worth up to $10 million a year, however, it was turned down by Gordon's camp as they feel his price tag should be higher. He is slated to make $5.6 million this season under his current deal and will need to make his return by Week 10 in order to take one more step closer to free agency.

Expectations are as high as ever in Los Angeles going into the season. As if the prospect of competing in the juggernaut AFC West was not daunting enough, the Chargers will now have to find a way to win without their two-time Pro Bowl running back for a good chunk of the year.
