Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa has been fined $15,000 by the NFL for a roughing penalty on New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton in Week 13, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Bosa had three solo tackles and one QB hit in the Chargers' blowout loss.

The Patriots protected Newton far better against the Chargers last Sunday than they did vs. the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night. The Bolts were only able to hit Newton twice (with one sack, by Kenneth Murray Jr.) in New England's 45-0 rout, compared to the six sacks and 10 QB hits the Rams recorded in their 24-3 over the Patriots.

It's not the first time in recent weeks that Joey Bosa has earned a fine for a rough hit. On Nov. 28, he was fined $15,000 for one of the two roughing the passer penalties he was called for in Week 11 against the New York Jets, per Rapoport. Bosa called that fine “ridiculous,” and voiced his frustrations about the disproportionate protections placed on QBs.

“I don't know what to do about it, so I'm gonna have to try to not tackle him. But when I'm going down, it's literally the only thing I could do, ” Bosa said. … But I don't know. It's kinda ridiculous … I thought I did a good job of bringing him down and rolling off. … But the rule is if you hit him below the knee you can't do that, so you gotta somehow sweep his leg or something ridiculous.”

Considering those words, it's hard to imagine the Chargers premier pass-rusher being thrilled about his latest fine.

Through his fifth season with the Chargers, Joey Bosa has 7.5 sacks in 10 games played. His single-season career-high is 12.5 sacks, set in 2017.
