The Los Angeles Chargers have signed wide receiver Travis Benjamin to a one-year contract extension that will take him through 2020, according to Field Yates of ESPN.

The extension features a $3 million signing bonus, and his base salary for 2019 was reduced from $5.25 million to $1 million. The new deal creates $2.75 million in cap space for the Chargers.

Benjamin is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played 12 games and had a very limited role, logging just 12 catches for 186 yards and a touchdown.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round (100th pick overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 14 contests during his rookie season, catching 18 passes for 298 yards and a couple of scores.

It was not until Benjamin's fourth year in the league that he really broke out, when he hauled in 68 receptions for 966 yards while reaching the end zone five times during his final season with the Browns.

He then landed with the Chargers, and in his first year with the club, he was solid, snaring 47 balls for 677 yards and four touchdowns. Then, in 2017, Benjamin finished with 34 catches for 567 yards and four scores.

Los Angeles won just 12 games this past season, earning a Wild Card berth in the AFC as the Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC West. The Bolts then went on to defeat the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs before falling to the New England Patriots in the Divisional Round the following week.
