Justin Herbert was probably just relaxing at home, minding his own business. Perhaps the Los Angeles Chargers star was fresh off a tiring workout and was ready to catch some shuteye when he suddenly caught a stray from Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs QB was a participant in the American Century Championship golf competition in Lake Tahoe, when someone warned him about his Chargers rival Herbert.

“I'll see it when I believe it,” said Mahomes.

Of course you could tell it was probably said in a cheeky, competitive manner as Mahomes simply clapped back at someone raising the Chargers QB's banner. But that didn't stop news outlets from picking up his sly shade, us included, to the point that the beef starting simmering on Twitter and the Chiefs star felt the need to address it:

Via USA Today's Jori Epstein:

“Yeah, I think it got taken out of context,” Mahomes said. “I was talking some trash to all those Raiders and Broncos and Chargers fans out there. I have a ton of respect for him as a player.”

“For him to come out in Year 1 and play at that level is a special thing,” Mahomes added on the Chargers QB. “Not a lot of guys can do it. And I know I’ll have a lot of tough games against him in the future. So it was kind of a joking matter that I think blew up on Twitter like most things to do.”

That's one big L for fans of quarterback beef, but a huge W for Mahomes fans who wanted more reason to respect their favorite QB.
