The Los Angeles Chargers have been optimistic about tight end Hunter Henry's status for this week's AFC Divisional Round matchup versus the New England Patriots. However, it appears his status still remains to be seen.

Henry has spent the 2018 NFL season recovering from an ACL tear. He was among the notable names on theChargers' recent injury report, via Twitter:

LACvsNE Game Status:

QUESTIONABLE: Hunter Henry, Derek Watt, Brandon Facyson, Kyle Wilson

Henry's current status should come as no surprise. There were rumors swirling that he would potentially be able to make his return despite suffering a devastating knee injury in the offseason. Fortunately, Henry has seemingly solidified that notion.

Although he has played coy on his status for Sunday's game, all signs point to him potentially playing a limited role in the playoffs moving forward. Henry has been adamant about his desire to play ever since he started making tremendous strides in his recovery. He now insists that the knee has become a non-issue.

There was plenty of hype surrounding Henry's emergence following a promising 2017 campaign. The former second-round pick registered 45 receptions for 579 yards and four touchdowns last season. It even appeared as though he would serve as the successor to tight end Antonio Gates prior to the injury.

The Chargers will certainly need all the help they can get as they prepare to travel to Foxborough. It is no secret that their history against the Patriots does not bode well for their chances. Henry would give quarterback Philip Rivers another weapon to utilize on offense.
