Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes caught some flak his several costly mistakes versus the Los Angeles Rams. However, linebacker Justin Houston has since come to his defense.

Many have pinned Kansas City's loss on Mahomes' inability to take care of the ball. Houston feels the blame should be shared by everyone on the team, via Kirk Larrabee of 247 Sports.

“It’s a team effort,” Houston said. “How many games did he win for us? I’m not going to let y’all do that. It’s a team effort.”

“I made mistakes too,” Houston said. “Everybody made mistakes. Don’t one person go out there and play 100 percent, so we’re not going to sit here and put it all on one play. There were several plays that needed to be made tonight that we didn’t make those plays. It’s a team effort. It’s never an individual. There’s 11 guys on the field as a whole so we’re not going to do that at all.”

There is certainly plenty of truth to Houston's comments. After all, The Chiefs were on the losing end of the highest-scoring game in NFL history. Although Mahomes' miscues may have ultimately cost them the game, they would not have even been in a position to win had it not been for his stellar performance. He completed 33-of-46 passes for 478 yards and six touchdowns. Unfortunately, his production was negated by the five turnovers.

There is no question that a few of the turnovers were on Mahomes' such as the pick-six to linebacker Samson Ebukam. However, his struggles can be attributed to the fact that the Rams defense was able to make plays on their end — something that Kansas City's defense largely failed to do. The Chiefs' defense will need to find a way to come through for the offense or risk suffering the same outcome against other high-powered offenses moving forward.
