Although the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night, the team may have lost Tyrann Mathieu to injury. It didn't look great, as Mathieu left the game early due to a concussion. Fortunately, head coach Andy Reid provides an update on the star safety ahead of Kansas City's matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

According to Pro Football Talk, it seems Tyrann Mathieu is progressing nicely through the concussion protocol. He'll still have some tests to pass before he's cleared, but this is great news for the Chiefs a day after the injury. With the Super Bowl within reach, Kansas City will need Mathieu to return as soon as possible.

Since the NFL upgraded its concussion protocols, it's much more difficult for players to return. However, we've seen multiple players come back within a week before, TJ Watt being one of them for the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is an injury the Chiefs will monitor throughout the week, but as long as Mathieu stays the course, we could see him on the field against the Bengals.

Kansas City has a rather weak secondary while Cincinnati has an elite wide receiver group. For the Chiefs, having Tyrann Mathieu on the field is essential for their success. However, the team won't rush him back if he can't clear protocols. For that reason, we're bound to see a mini update on the star safety nearly every day until he's cleared.
