Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes faces the toughest test of his career this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, it appears head coach Doug Marrone is even more concerned about what his team is going up against.

There is no question Mahomes has been the hottest player out the gate thus far in the 2018 NFL season. Marrone doubled down by suggesting this is the best he has ever seen a quarterback play, via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk:

“Right now, he’s playing better than any quarterback has ever played. He’s an MVP quarterback,” Marrone said in a Wednesday press conference. “The question is what he can’t do. I don’t know. I don’t think words can really put in perspective how great he’s playing. That’s really all there is to it.”

Marrone's praise may seem a bit far-fetched, but there is certainly plenty of truth to his comments. Mahomes has been virtually flawless through the first four games of the season. He has already thrown for 1,200 yards, 15 touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He has also managed to tack on 53 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. These are without a doubt MVP-caliber numbers that very few quarterbacks in history have been able to match over any stretch.

However, he still has yet to face a defense like the one Jacksonville boasts. Their ability to rush the passer and provide lockdown coverage over the top makes them a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks. It will be interesting to see if Mahomes can keep his hot streak going this Sunday.
